2020 Theater Season Cancelled
This summer marks the 40th anniversary of the 1980 reopening of Rabbit Run Theater. Through all those years the doors to the barn have always remained open and many of you have been with us for each and every season. We simply can’t imagine a summer without seeing you at the barn.
For the last six weeks the Board of Directors of Rabbit Run Community Arts Association has been closely following updates regarding the spread of COVID-19 and abiding by the recommendations of the Ohio Department of Health and the Lake County General Health District. We held off on any final decisions regarding the theater season until Monday when Governor DeWine announced his Responsible RestartOhio Plan.
Our greatest concern is always for the safety and wellbeing of our theater patrons, staff and volunteers. And so we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Rabbit Run Theater season.
The decision to cancel the season is an unprecedented one for RRCAA. Last summer, more than 11,000 patrons visited the barn with ticket sales and subscriptions accounting for more than half the annual operating dollars for the organization. This situation has truly put Rabbit Run in a financial tailspin.
It is our sincere hope that, as the summer progresses, State guidelines will allow for larger gatherings. Should this be the case, we will jump on any opportunity possible to offer one or more of the intended productions from the season.
In the meantime, we are planning a series of streamed performances that will be available throughout the summer. We know these cannot replace the traditional season, but we hope we can provide a smile, a song, and something to keep you entertained through this challenging time.
