The 27th Annual Juried Art Show, sponsored by Rabbit Run Community Arts Association (RRCAA) and the Madison Public Library opens Apr. 4, and applications for admission are currently being accepted.   For twenty-seven years RRCAA in cooperation with the Madison Public Library has proudly sponsored this adjudicated event showcasing the art work of some of Northeast Ohio’s most talented visual artists. 

The art show runs from Wednesday, Apr. 4, to Wednesday, May 2, at the Madison Public Library and is open to all visual artists in Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties.  Any high school or adult artist may submit up to three works in any two-dimensional medium.  Small three-dimensional works may be submitted as well.

Cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show and First Place in painting, drawing, photography and three-dimensional categories.  Categories are subject to change depending on entries submitted.  Ribbons will be presented for First, Second and Honorable Mention in all categories for both adults and students.  Also offered is a “Most Promising Student Award.”  Cash awards for adults and Most Promising Student have increased this year.  Best of Show award is $100, and first place in all adult categories award is $50.  Most Promising Student award is $75, and first place in all student categories is $25.

Jurors for the show are Linda Merchant and Mary Urbas (see bios below).  

Applications for entry in the 27th Annual Juried Art Show are being accepted through Mar. 29 and are available on the link below as well as local libraries. Applications will be accepted at the RRCAA office, 49 Park St., Madison Village.    There is a non-refundable entry fee of $25 for adults and $7 for students. 

The Art Show Awards reception is Wednesday, Apr. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Madison Public Library, 6111 Middle Ridge Rd., Madison.  All works selected for inclusion in the show will be exhibited and available for sale (unless marked NFS) at the library from Wednesday, Apr. 4, through Wednesday, May 2, during regular library hours.

Linda Merchant is a visual arts faculty member at the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning, the Fine Arts Association and the Ashtabula Arts Center and has also taught visiting artist classes in area public schools.  She is primarily a self-taught artist specializing in contemporary realism and wildlife art, with a focus on detailed painting techniques in oil and soft pastel. 


Merchant has exhibited in national and international juried art shows, winning multiple awards.  She has worked as a gallery representative in a high-end art gallery environment and has participated in juried show planning committees and coordinated gallery events.  http://lamgallery.com/

Mary Urbas is the gallery coordinator, exhibition curator and installation designer at The Gallery in Lakeland Community College.  Primary shows include the “May Show at Lakeland Juried Art Exhibition” and “from WOMAN.”

Urbas has 38 years of experience in the professional art world as a gallery owner, curator, teacher, consultant, and exhibiting fiber artist. She received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art with a major in Textile Design and Silk Screen Printing and minors in Weaving and Printmaking.

She has served as a juror for numerous local and regional juried art competitions and outdoor art fairs.  Her own silkscreened wearables, wall hangings and fabrics have received numerous awards in juried exhibitions and art fairs throughout Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania.  http://lakelandcc.edu/gallery
