CREATIVE MOVEMENT (Ages 3 - 4)

We use song and music to get our bodies moving through space. We work on concepts of space, tempo, levels and movement quality. Students use a variety of props and play games to encourage movement. Use of imagination and personal expression are promoted. Students will learn basic classroom skills such as listening to directions, taking turns, using manners, and playing nicely with others. A chance to get those extra wiggles out in a fun and safe environment!

PRE-BALLET ( Ages 4 - 6)

PRE-REQUISITE: Four-year olds must have taken Creative Movement
Students take the skills acquired in Creative Movement and apply them to the basics of classical ballet. Students will learn simple foot and arm positions, as well as steps that are the building blocks of ballet. We use classical music, hoops and scarves to foster creative expression. Students also work on classroom etiquette, focus and movement retention. Fun and imagination are encouraged!

PRE-TAP/JAZZ (Ages 5 - 6)

This class introduces young dancers to both tap and jazz dancing. We split the time equally between the two styles. Students will learn warm-ups for both, and different routines. Basic movement vocabulary as well as class etiquette are our focus. We use hoops and scarves to encourage creative expression as well as age appropriate popular music to get us dancing. Pre-Tap/Jazz is a great fit for that high-energy kid who can never stop moving!

BALLET I (Ages 6 – 8)


PRE-REQUISITE: Six-year olds must have taken Pre-Ballet
Young students take the skills acquired in Pre-Ballet and build on them. All age levels continue to study at the barre as well as practice center work. As students’ skill levels increase, they will be introduced to more complicated classical ballet steps and vocabulary. Rhythmic accuracy, grace, movement retention and movement quality are emphasized. Participants are expected to know basic foot/arm positions as well as basic ballet movements before joining these classes.

Students will continue to explore the style of tap dancing. We will expand our movement vocabulary as well as hone our accuracy skills. Rhythm, retention and movement quality will be our focus. Individuality and personal style are also fostered. The use of age appropriate popular as well as traditional music will add to the fun!

A new class designed for students to find their own voice in creating movement. Students will be given the opportunity to create solo and group work with feedback from instructors and fellow students. Each student will show his/her own work in an informal showing at the end of each session. Students may then have work selected for
performance at the recital at the end of the year.

ADULT BALLET FITNESS (High School – Adult)

Join the fun as we use the art form of classical ballet to create an exercise class. This class is designed for all skill levels. It’s wonderful for building strength, increasing flexibility and improving balance. Ballet is also great for memory skills and concentration. Come join us as we “belly up to the barre”!

For students who have no prior dance experience. Curious to know what it’s like? Take this class and get the chance to be a dancer. Students will learn about hearing/ feeling the beat in the music as well as basic positions and steps of dance. We will work with concepts of space, tempo, levels, and movement quality. Students will also learn basic classroom etiquette and how to wear and use their dance shoes properly. Come and find out if dance is right for you in a fun, non-competitive environment where everyone is welcome

There will be a formal dance recital on May 23, 2010, for those students enrolled in classes no later than January.
